What Is ZEROHERO? GloBird’s Battery and VPP Energy Plan Explained
If you own a home battery, GloBird ZEROHERO is designed specifically for households that want to get more value from the way they charge, use and export energy. GloBird Energy is an independently owned Australian electricity and gas retailer, and ZEROHERO is its flagship battery-focused electricity plan.
The plan is built around a simple idea: use more energy when it is plentiful, reduce grid use during the evening peak and make better use of stored solar energy. ZEROHERO combines free daytime charging opportunities, daily rewards and enhanced export incentives, with compatible battery and VPP features forming part of the broader offer. Here is how it works and who may be eligible.
What Is ZEROHERO and How Does It Work?
ZEROHERO is GloBird Energy’s electricity plan for households with solar panels and a compatible battery. It combines several features, including ZEROCHARGE, the ZEROHERO credit, ZEROWASTEDSOLAR and ZEROLIMITS. The exact features, participation requirements and compatible battery arrangements can vary, so customers should check the current offer for their address and system before joining.
The Four Parts of a ZEROHERO Plan
ZEROCHARGE gives eligible customers a daily midday window of free grid electricity that can be used to charge a battery or run high-draw appliances. The exact window can vary by offer or location; click ‘Get a Quote’ on the GloBird website to see the current details for your address.
The ZEROHERO credit rewards customers who draw effectively no power from the grid during the evening peak. ZEROWASTEDSOLAR provides additional value for eligible solar exports during the evening, while ZEROLIMITS can provide further rewards during declared wholesale critical events. Rates, windows and limits can change, so check the current offer and applicable fact sheet for your address.
Who Is Eligible for ZEROHERO?
Eligibility is specific, and GloBird lists it clearly in its VPP FAQ. To qualify, a customer needs to be a residential, non-ABN customer located in NSW, SA, VIC, or the Energex region of QLD, with no life-support equipment at the property. The property needs a smart meter and a reliable internet connection, and the battery system itself needs to fall within GloBird’s supported range, roughly a 3–30kW inverter paired with a 3–100kWh battery. Customers already enrolled in another VPP or demand-response trial aren’t eligible to join ZEROHERO at the same time.
Compatible battery brands currently include AlphaESS, Anker, Dyness, FoxESS, Neovolt, Redback, SAJ, Sigenergy, SolaX, Solis, Sungrow and WHES (formerly eCactus). Compatibility can change as new systems are added, so check GloBird’s current supported battery list before signing up.
How to Join GloBird ZEROHERO
Joining ZEROHERO follows the same basic switching process as any GloBird plan, with one extra eligibility check up front. First, confirm your battery and inverter fall within GloBird’s supported range and that your property meets the residential, one thing to note is the plan isn’t eligible for households with life-support equipment.
From there: compare ZEROHERO against GloBird’s other plans for your usage pattern submit your details including your address and battery system information, and wait for your Welcome Pack, which confirms your applicable ZEROCHARGE window and starts your 10-business-day cooling-off period.
ZEROHERO vs. Other VPP Plans
ZEROHERO is designed around compatible battery and VPP capability, but the exact way a battery participates can depend on the current offer, supported hardware and program settings. Customers should check the current ZEROHERO terms and battery requirements before joining.
ZEROHERO and Government Battery or VPP Incentives
Government battery and VPP incentives are separate from the ZEROHERO energy plan and can change over time. The main programs are best considered separately rather than as one generic rebate.
The Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries program may reduce the upfront cost of an eligible battery. New South Wales also has a separate VPP incentive for eligible customers, while South Australia has its own VPP-related incentive arrangements through approved providers. Eligibility, values and program rules can change, so check the relevant government program and current GloBird information before relying on an incentive.
