Five service types
How requests work
The same four steps, whatever the service
Most of this work is coordinated between you, your installer or electrician, the local distributor and GloBird. Here's the path every request follows.
Submit your request
Apply through your distributor's online portal, email us the required documents, or use a GloBird self-serve form.
We review & confirm
GloBird sends a confirmation letter or email outlining next steps, timeframe, charges and any consent or prepayment needed.
Work is scheduled
The distributor or metering technician completes the job. Please make sure the site has safe, clear access.
Completion SMS
GloBird sends an SMS once the job is complete. No need to contact us in the meantime.

If you've recently installed solar — or your system is installed but you're not receiving a feed-in tariff — you may need a solar meter configuration. It lets your meter accurately record the electricity your system exports back to the grid. If you currently have a basic meter or a manually read interval meter, a smart meter upgrade may be needed first.
- You've just had a solar system installed.
- Your solar is installed but you're not getting a feed-in tariff.
- Your meter is "running backwards" — usually a basic meter that hasn't been upgraded or configured yet.
The process depends on your distributor and location. In most cases your solar installer submits the application directly to your distributor. Some distributors notify GloBird automatically once approved; others need documents sent to us first. Check your distributor below.

| State | Distributor | What to provide |
|---|---|---|
| VIC | CitiPower, Powercor, United Energy | Your solar installer submits the application through the distributor's online portal. Once approved, your distributor notifies GloBird directly — nothing to send us at this stage. |
| AusNet | Email us the DER Post Installation Form Output after your installer submits the application via the AusNet portal. | |
| Jemena | Email us the Electrical Works Request (EWR), the Certificate of Electrical Safety (CES), and evidence the My CSIP-AUS Inverter application is complete, or a Commissioning Test Outcome Record Form. | |
| NSW | Ausgrid | Email us the Contract Notification Letter received from the distributor. |
| Endeavour Energy | Email us the Connection of Generator Letter received from the distributor. | |
| Essential Energy | Email us the Connection Service Offer Letter received from the distributor. | |
| SA | SA Power Networks | Email us the Embedded Generation Form received from the distributor. |
| QLD | Energex, Ergon | Your installer submits an application through the distributor's online portal. GloBird usually receives the Electrical Works Request directly — nothing to send us at this stage. |
Once we receive your documents or the distributor's notification, our team reviews the request and sends a confirmation letter or email with the next steps, timeframe, charges and any prepayment or consent needed before work proceeds.
Around 20 business days from when the service order is raised. Actual times vary with distributor processing, installer response and metering company availability.
Solar meter reconfiguration charges generally apply and are confirmed before work starts. A required basic-to-smart meter upgrade is usually free; additional or wasted-visit fees may apply if work can't be completed.
A new connection is needed when a newly built property or development requires a new electricity supply and meter. The builder, electrician or customer works with a chosen retailer and the local distributor so the site can be created, the National Metering Identifier (NMI) allocated and the meter installed.
- A new build or development needs power and a meter for the first time.
- A site requires a new NMI to be allocated before energisation.
First, identify the property's electricity distributor. Your Registered Electrical Contractor (REC), builder or electrician may need to submit an application to the distributor before GloBird can complete the account setup and metering steps.

| State | Distributor | What to provide |
|---|---|---|
| VIC | CitiPower, Powercor, AusNet, United Energy | You or your REC apply through the distributor's online portal. The distributor then sends GloBird a Business-to-Business (B2B) request. |
| Jemena Electricity | Email us the Electrical Works Request (EWR) and the Certificate of Electrical Safety (CES). | |
| NSW | Ausgrid | First submit a New Connection Application with Ausgrid to get your NMI. Then email us with:
|
| Endeavour Energy, Essential Energy | Obtain approval from your distributor and engage an Accredited Service Provider (ASP) for the electrical works. Then email us:
|
|
| SA / QLD | SA Power Networks, Energex | You or your REC apply through the distributor website. The distributor sends GloBird a Business-to-Business (B2B) request. |
Once we have the documents or distributor notification, we review the request, set up the account and send a confirmation letter or email with next steps, timeframe, charges and any prepayment or consent needed.
Around 25 business days after account setup, paperwork and prepayment are complete. Some sites need separate NMI allocation, establish-supply and meter-install stages.
New connection charges generally apply. GloBird outlines any charges and prepayment requirements in the confirmation letter or email after reviewing the request and setting up the account. Additional or wasted-visit fees may apply if work can't be completed.
An electricity service alteration & upgrade is needed when an existing electricity supply needs to be changed.
The correct pathway depends on the state, distributor and type of electrical work — see your distributor below.
Email anything required to cs@globirdenergy.com.au.
| State | Distributor | What to provide |
|---|---|---|
| VIC | CitiPower, Powercor, AusNet, United Energy | Ask your electrician, or apply yourself, through the distributor's online portal. Once approved, the distributor notifies GloBird directly — nothing to send us at this stage. |
| Jemena Electricity | Email us a copy of the Electrical Works Request (EWR). | |
| NSW | Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy, Essential Energy | For most NSW alteration requests, your electrician submits an application through the distributor's online portal and the distributor coordinates directly with you — nothing to send us. If the work involves removing a controlled-load smart meter, contact us so we can assist. |
| SA / QLD | Energex, Ergon, SAPN | Your electrician submits an application through the distributor's online portal. The distributor usually manages the job with you. If GloBird needs to act, the distributor will notify us — nothing to send us at this stage. |
Once we receive the distributor notification or any required documents, we review the request and send a confirmation letter or email with next steps, timeframe, charges and any prepayment or consent needed.
Around 20 business days after the local distributor or metering provider accepts the request. This is a guide only — actual dates depend on appointment availability and coordination between the customer, electrician, metering provider and distributor.
Charges vary by distributor and work type, and are confirmed in the confirmation letter or email. Wasted-visit fees may apply if clear, safe access isn't available.
A gas service alteration & upgrade is needed when an existing gas service needs to be changed.
For example a gas meter relocation, a meter upgrade or downgrade, or a gas regulator upgrade. Relocation may involve excavation around the meter or infrastructure; meter or regulator upgrades are usually needed when the gas pressure or appliance load changes.
The process differs for NSW Jemena Gas and other distributors. If your distributor is Jemena Gas in NSW, submit through Jemena's online portal. For all other gas distributors, complete the Gas Application Form.
| Distributor | Job type | What to provide |
|---|---|---|
| NSW Jemena Gas | Gas alteration | Submit through Jemena's online portal. Fees are charged directly by Jemena — no involvement is required from GloBird. |
| All other gas distributors | Meter relocation | Complete the Gas Application Form. The distributor may first assess the proposed relocation and provide a quote before physical work proceeds. |
| Meter / regulator upgrade or downgrade | Complete the Gas Application Form. A plumber should complete it — the existing and new appliance consumption details are required. |
Once we receive your application, we review the request and send a confirmation letter or email with next steps, timeframe, charges and any prepayment or consent needed.
Around 20–30 business days after the service order is submitted or the property is vacated, whichever is later. Meter relocation can take longer because an initial quote or assessment may be required first.
Charges vary by distributor, site condition and work type, and are confirmed after we receive your completed Gas Application Form. Wasted-visit fees may apply if clear, safe access isn't available.
Supply abolishment is the permanent removal or disconnection of an electricity or gas supply. Electricity abolishment disconnects the service lines or cables and removes the associated meters. Gas abolishment permanently disconnects the gas service, removes the meter and may involve capping the service pipe. It's commonly required when a property is being demolished, fully renovated, or will no longer need that supply.
The process depends on the fuel type, state and distributor. Please make sure the property is ready and that safe, clear access is available for the distributor or metering technician.
Email documents to cs@globirdenergy.com.au, or use a self-serve form where shown.
| Fuel / State | Distributor or meter type | What to provide |
|---|---|---|
| Electricity — VIC | CitiPower, Powercor, AusNet, United Energy | Submit the abolishment application through your distributor's online portal (you or your REC). Once processed, the distributor notifies GloBird directly — nothing to send us at this stage. |
| Jemena Electricity | Email us the Victorian Electricity Supply Industry (VESI) form. | |
| Electricity — NSW | Basic meter sites | Please engage a Level 2 electrician to submit a Permanent Disconnection application through the distributor's online portal. After the meter is removed, your electrician will submit the required notification through the distributor portal so the meter and NMI can be removed from the system. This process is managed directly between your electrician and the distributor, so you do not need to send any documents to GloBird at this stage. |
| Smart meter sites (incl. manually read interval meters) | Email us a completed GloBird Abolishment (Permanent Removal) of Electricity Supply form. | |
| Electricity — QLD / SA | All relevant electricity distributors | Email us a completed GloBird Abolishment (Permanent Removal) of Electricity Supply form. |
| Gas | All gas distributors | Complete the Gas Application Form online. Plumber details aren't usually required for a gas abolishment. |
Once we receive the documents or distributor notification, we review the request and send a confirmation letter or email with next steps, timeframe, charges and any prepayment or consent needed.
Electricity: around 20 business days after the distributor accepts the service order, or from your vacant date, whichever is later. Gas: around 20–30 business days from the service order or vacant date, whichever is later.
Abolishment charges generally apply and are confirmed before work commences. Wasted site-visit fees may apply if the technician can't safely access the meter or service assets.
