How GloBird has created the best deal for solar battery owners

A couple of years ago, GloBird Energy launched the Free Lunch Plan. We wanted to incentivise a shift in energy usage where customers with the flexibility to use more energy during off-peak times would get some reward for taking a bit of the load off the system at peak times.

We’ve been delighted by the customer feedback, so much so that we’ve taken a huge step further. Not only can you get free electricity, but you can also get paid to use less grid electricity during peak periods.

 

Our new innovative offer is called ZEROHERO.

 

With the growth of renewable energy, especially solar, the balance between energy supply and demand has shifted. The proportion of our energy mix coming from renewable sources has reshaped the supply side of the equation, so we’re looking at ways to realign supply with demand. 

ZEROHERO is designed to reward customers with rooftop solar arrays and battery storage who can provide energy to the grid when it’s most needed.

The abundance of solar-generated energy available in the middle of the day is great, but it would be wonderful to take some of that good energy and shift it to times of high demand when it’s most valuable.

That’s where battery storage – and ZEROHERO – come in.

Amazing ROI for your home battery

If you have a home battery, it makes sense to feed your excess solar back into the grid when it’s worth the most.

The simplest way to do that is by setting your battery’s charge and discharge times.

If you can use more power during the day and less during the evening peak, that frees up your excess to go into the grid at that time of greater demand. For example, you could store energy during the free midday period and discharge during the evening peak when prices are higher. 

The ZEROHERO energy plan is designed to give those who can follow that usage and feed-in pattern the best return on investment of their home battery with the least fuss.

We’ve even included an incentive for simply not drawing any power from the grid during that high-demand evening peak. If you don’t draw any energy from the grid, that ZERO usage during the peak will earn you $1 a day. And if you can go further and sell excess energy at that evening peak, you get a bonus feed-in rate too.

What the ZEROHERO plan offers you

ZEROHERO offers three key benefits for solar battery owners:

    •     – ZEROCHARGE: You pay NOTHING to charge your battery between 11 am and 2 pm. This zero-cost energy lets you fully charge your battery for free every day.
    •     – $1 for ZERO grid usage: You’ll earn $1 every day you draw ZERO (less than 0.03kWh/Hour) from the grid during the evening peak period. This makes it easier to save money just by using your stored energy when demand is highest.
    •     – SUPEREXPORT: Higher earnings for feeding solar back into the grid. The ZEROHERO plan includes a bonus Super Export Credit for the first 10kWh exported during the evening peak each day.

These features mean that your battery is working for you, whether you’re using stored energy or selling it back to the grid.

ZEROHERO is basically a VPP product

ZEROHERO isn’t just about individual savings—it’s about creating a collective energy solution. The reason we’re able to offer the feed-in rates of ZEROHERO is that we’re consolidating the energy of those who join the plan to create a Virtual Power Plant (VPP).

The combined energy of the many members of a VPP becomes a lot more valuable than the same energy would be coming through in individual trickles, largely because it can be monitored, managed, and dispatched with greater precision and to greater effect.

By pooling together, we achieve a “critical mass” of valuable energy, enabling us to provide that energy to the grid during times of high demand, maximising returns for all VPP members.

You may be eligible for ZEROHERO if you meet the following criteria

The key eligibility criteria for the GloBird ZEROHERO VPP offer are:

    •   – You are a residential, non-ABN customer located in NSW, SA, QLD (Energex) or VIC.
    •   – You own and occupy the Premises or have the right to use the System.
    •   – No one requires life support or uses the System for critical care needs at the Premises.
    •   – The Premises has a smart meter installed.
    •   – There is a reliable internet (5G or fibre broadband) connection connected the Premises and the System.
    •   – The Premises and the System is not involved in any other VPP Offer or other demand response program, including any pilot or demonstration trial.
    •   – Your System is normally functioning with between:
        •       – 3 kW – 15 kW solar-PV capacity
        •       – 3 kW – 35 kW battery capacity (AlphaESS, SunGrow, SolaX, Sigenergy or Tesla brands only)
