Why have my rates changed so soon after I joined you?
Like all energy retailers, we normally adjust our energy rates around December each year. This is when Australian distributors (who own electrical infrastructure) obtain government approval for their annual distribution charges. This means a customer who joins us at the start of the year will likely stay on the same rates for 11 or 12 months before their rates change. Likewise, customers who join us towards the end of the year will see a rate change sooner.
GloBird guarantees fixed rates for at least three months following your initial sign-up. For example, if you joined us towards the fourth quarter of 2018, we have deferred changing your rates until March 2019.
Why are my energy rates changing?
We need to adjust your energy rates in line with network and wholesale costs. Like most energy companies we normally do this in December each year. For customers who joined us in late 2018, we have deferred changing your rates because we guarantee fixed rates for at least three months following your initial sign-up. My rate change seem kind of high, why is that?
We’ve consistently offered some of the lowest energy rates in Victoria every year since our inception. We are proud to have won Mozo’s Best Rate In Victoria in 2017, again in 2018, and we aim to win this award every year. Having such low rates can make even a couple of cents increase appear higher for a company with lower rates than the more expensive retailers. For example, a 2 cent increase on a 10 cent tariff translates to a 20% increase. However, if the tariff was 20 cents to begin with, the same 2 cent increase translates to a 10% increase.
What matters most is the ultimate rate you pay for energy, and you can rest assured that GloBird will always provide you with some of the lowest rates on the market. As a retailer, we keep our operating costs to a minimum, and our margins are razor thin, however we can’t control the underlying cost of energy. Is GloBird still the best provider for me?

As always, our 2019 rates will prove to be very competitive after the chaos of the price change season subsides. How can I be sure the price change is fair?
GloBird doesn’t have lock in contracts, so we won’t just change your price unless it’s absolutely necessary. It’s simply not in our interests to do so.
