Cheaper Home Battery Program Receive up to 30% off installation costs

From July 2025, the Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program will make home energy storage more affordable for households across the country. Under the program, eligible homeowners can receive a rebate of around 30% off the total installation costs of a home battery system, making the upfront investment significantly lower.

The rebate is applied at the point of purchase, so you won’t need to manage complex paperwork or wait months for a refund. Instead, your accredited battery installer will guide you through the process and handle the rebate claim on your behalf. This ensures the discount is built directly into your installation quote, keeping things simple and transparent.

By reducing the cost barrier, the Cheaper Home Batteries Program makes it easier for households to store excess solar power, cut electricity bills, and increase independence from the grid — while also supporting Australia’s transition to cleaner energy.

Virtual Power Plant rebate (NSW/SA only) Join ZEROHERO and receive a rebate of up to $2,050

On top of the federal rebate, some states provide even greater savings. In New South Wales and South Australia, households can access additional incentives of up to $2,050 when they connect their home battery to a recognised Virtual Power Plant (VPP) energy plan, such as ZEROHERO.

Once your battery is installed and you’ve joined the ZEROHERO plan, our team will email you simple instructions on how to claim your VPP rebate. The process is quick and hassle-free, managed by our partner Mac Trade Services, with the rebate paid directly into your bank account.

Am I eligible for ZEROHERO?

The key eligibility criteria for GloBird ZEROHERO VPP offer are:

  • You are a residential, non-ABN customer located in NSW, SA, QLD (Energex) or VIC.
  • You own and occupy the Premises or have the right to use the System.
  • No one requires life support or uses the System for critical care needs at the Premises.
  • The Premises has a smart meter installed.
  • There is a reliable internet (5G or fibre broadband) connection connected the Premises and the System.
  • The Premises and the System is not involved in any other VPP Offer or other demand response program, including any pilot or demonstration trial.
  • Qualified Systems:
    • Inverter Power: between 3 kW and 30 kW
    • Battery Capacity: between 3 kWh and 100 kWh
    • The following benefits apply to all battery brands

      • ZEROWASTEDSOLAR (Super Export)

Important information
  • To earn VPP Credits, you must have a Qualifying System and must meet and remain compliant with the Eligibility Criteria and all other requirements of the Virtual Power Plant Terms and Conditions.
  • Your System may need to have particular characteristics (including its technical and/or control capability) as provided by its manufacturer and/or installer in order to access some of the VPP Credits.
  • Meeting the requirements of one of the VPP Credits may limit your ability to earn other VPP Credits.
  • GloBird Energy expects to launch its VPP Intelligent Control Technology in due course which will automatically co-ordinate your System for ZEROHERO VPP Credits. Eligible customers in the meantime can secure ZEROHERO VPP Credits via their System manufacturer’s app and/or 3rd party control devices as applicable.
